One of the tasks I have as a piano teacher is purchasing music for the kids. I usually do this at a local music store. The store is filled with busy employees that are either waiting on people or tuning instruments. But there is one young man who is clearly different. He may only be emptying the trash or dusting pianos, but that's not what makes him different. It only takes one conversation with him to know that he is mentally handicapped. He speaks clearly but with a cadence that shares with the world he is different.
He's spoken with me several times and is always polite. But, today he showed his difference in another way that just touched my heart. Christ was present in this young man. As I was searching through the different books he came up and said, "Hello! How are you today?" I told him I was doing fine. He said, "Me too, because God loves me." I responded that it was wonderful how He loves us. He stopped and so clearly said, "He always forgives me when I need Him to. He's just great like that!"
I called the store just now because I don't want to go back in without being able to call him by name. The woman that answered didn't seem too taken with him, but I am. Christ showed Himself through a young man named Brooks today...and it was awesome.
