Do you ever get the feeling that as a Christ-follower you can sometimes lose site of the warmth and love of God in the middle of trying to "do church" the right way? I walked into the fellowship hall this morning and JoAnn came to me saying that Kelsey was crying, very upset about her grandfather. I went straight to this incredibly cute little girl and found her in tears. She wasn't alone because she had a friend, Haylee, nearby comforting her the best she could. I sat down and brought Kelsey on my lap and held her asking, "Kelsey Jane (her nickname), what's wrong, baby?" She sniffled something about her grandfather being taken to the hospital and she didn't know how he was doing or what was wrong. So, JoAnn and Haylee surrounded us as I prayed for Kelsey's grandfather. She stopped crying and by this time her Bible Study teacher had arrived and she too, said she'd pray with Kelsey about it.
Several weeks ago, Mr. Hughes, a charming Southern gentleman and wonderful Christ-follower, came to me asking about Kelsey. He wasn't sure of her name, but said that when he saw her singing up front he could tell she was giving her heart & soul in song. So, this morning right before the worship service I took Kelsey to the back and introduced the two. Mr. Hughes is in his 80's and Kelsey is just a little 3rd grader. Kelsey once again sat in my lap as Mr. Hughes sat down beside us (with Haylee right there too, because she wasn't going to leave Kelsey during her time of need). I told him about Kelsey's grandfather and Mr. Hughes asked her if it was okay for him to have prayer with her right then. He took her little hand in his and prayed a beautiful prayer to the Father.
I was telling David about it on our way home and he said that he saw Sharon W. praying with her this morning, too. I'm over-whelmed with the way one little girl brought all us adults to spend time in conversation with the Lord this morning. God brought Kelsey's need to our attention and that brought all of us closer to Him. Awesome!
