Perspective is one of those good/evil things. It's always good when it's your own...unless it art. I've been going out of order on the EDM drawing list, but number 5 on the list - egad! Argh! BAAH!!! BAAH!!! It reads "draw your bed." Thus, the agony begins.
Pam did an incredibly awesome look-a-like job on my bedroom designed from a Southern Living magazine. I'm not a frou-frou person; my mother taught me the "less is more" guide to fashion/style as I was growing up, so clean simple classic lines is where you'll find me on most aspects of life. My bed is very effortless . Pam built a lush yet simple headboard for our king-sized bed, covered with a natural colored linen fabric. There are only two large pillows that are on the bed, along with a coverlet & simple straight bedskirt. And yet, I cannot draw the danged thing!!! My art perspective stinks.
During my very first art class we had to draw the art center hall. That meant LOTS of perspective, horizon lines, vanishing points, etc. I struggled with it then and continue to today.
Great artists (who have proven themselves) would paint pictures that my art instructors would have rolled their eyes at had I done it. So, I'll continue on, struggling to get the correct artistic perspective...and then go on to paint really bad stuff that I like.

I've enjoyed visiting your blog! Beautiful dog!
Thanks, Deb. Life is very different with a Great Dane.
And it will all be great.
love,
David
I like this drawing/painting very much - it is vibrant and BOLD!!
Hi Kathleen. I loved the picture I included of the piece by Matisse, too. He's one of those famous artists who painted with weird perspective at times, and yet it was genius!
Draw your bed facing it square on. Lots less perspective that way. I didn't draw my whole bed. I concentrated on the folds of the bedding (couldn't make my bed till I finished drawing it so had to hurry; I don't like unmade beds). One of my little dogs got up and messed up the folds so sketching time was over but check here to see how little perspective was used
I'm on a trip to Savannah right now (just got in to the hotel) but your drawing has inspired me! I love the movement of the sheets & coverlet. I'm like you in that I hate an unmade bed, but I'll take a picture of it straight on and see if that makes a difference. Thanks!!
Hi, Bunny, so nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by & leaving me a note. I hope you'll come back again for a visit. I'm always up to something fun.
Rhoda
Hi, Bunny!
I stopped by to say "thanks" for your sweet comments regarding our St. Augustine digs in the thread over on Rhoda's blog. I'm sure glad I came over here... Matisse! Be still my heart! I love Matisse!
I also love your Great Dane and can't wait to snoop around your blog as I'm sure I will enjoy it, too! I should have known you were an artist, and I would wager to guess, a collector??? To answer your question about the prie dieu, yes, it is, and I have another one, too. The other one is covered in an antque Victorian needlepoint that is worn and wonderful. Pleasing decay has great appeal to me. It better... or else I'd have a hard time looking in the mirror. ;-)
I'm getting punchy so I'll sign off now.
Have a wonderful week ahead and sweet dreams,
Sheila
Hello Sheila! Thanks so much for dropping by and letting me know about the prie dieu. There is something deep, personal, and lovely about them...and that's just exactly the way I feel about St Augustine! Have a great day, and Henley says to tell you, "BOOF!"
