This morning was workday for New Hope. The email told of a 7:30 a.m. breakfast of grits, biscuits, sausage gravy, bacon - the works! I'm not a breakfast person, nor am I a 7:30 a.m. person. I guess you can see how this was doomed from the start for me.

We got there around 8 and the men had just sat down to begin eating. It smelled wonderful, but I headed on over to the sanctuary. My goal was to vacuum the whole area. This task is pretty straight forward and simple at home, but at church it's a whole 'nother animal!

First, you have a very large room filled with 150 or so chairs, microphones, music stands, amps - just lots of opportunities to work around. I mean, if you take 150 attached chairs that each have 4 legs, that alone equals 600 metal pieces to work around. Joy! I thought I'd make it easier for me if I used an extension cord so I wouldn't have to stop every 10 minutes to hunt an electrical outlet. Easy? Not at church. I found 2 extension cords, one nice long maybe 15' one and the other a short 5' cord. I chose the long one and dragged it out with the vacuum cleaner.

Next, I hunt for a clear electrical socket. Found it! I plugged in the extension cord and then took it over to the vacuum cleaner only to find it to be a 3-prong cord which wouldn't work with the 2 pronged extension cord! So, I go get the shorter cord. It's got the 3 prongs like the vacuum does, so I think I'm ready to go. Wrong. I plug it into the vacuum cord and then take it to the electrical socket...which is a 2 prong!!!!! BAAH!! Trying to stay calm (remember, I'm not a morning person) I hunt another outlet. Aha! There's a 3 pronged electrical outlet. I take it over and plug it in only to find IT DOESN'T WORK!!!

After humming a happy peaceful tune, I coil the cord back up, reel in the vacuum cord, and put them both away. I smile as I pass the outside passageway to the fellowship hall where David and the guys are finishing up breakfast. Here's the key to understanding that the sentence above about the happy peaceful tune, smile, etc might not have been exactly accurate: David seems me coming into the door to the fellowship hall and immediately stands to hand me the car keys. He knew I was pretty much fed up with something...anything by that point. That's just one of the ways I know he loves me. He reads me well!

I'm thinking this must be a clear sign from God to stay away from church work days..
