I have an extensive blog roll ranging from extremely goofy to extraordinarily deep and meaningful. I am finding that I have an increasing number of Catholic bloggers that I read daily. Even though our beliefs are quite different I love the way those I have subscribed to are able to at once laugh at themselves (how I wish we protestants would do more of that!!) and also speak out on issues and doctrine that are important to them.

For a quick-witted take on a very Catholic subject, read "To Cassock or Not to Cassock" by Fr Dwight Longenecker. He lists pros and cons. Here are a few:

Pros:
  • the pockets are capacious
  • the scapular makes a handy hotpad for getting things out of the oven
  • it says 'Catholic and proud of it' in the Bible Belt
  • You are not mistaken for an Episcopalian
Cons:
  • The cat thinks the scapular is a plaything
  • Personal errm...hygiene matters become more complicated
  • Like the Scotsman's kilt--people wonder what you wear underneath
Go to the above link and read the rest - they're great!
