American Idol

I am guilty of loving reality TV. Not, the crappy stuff like shown on MTV, but the really cool stuff for erudite viewers like me. For instance, America's Next Top Model is pure class (you go, Miss J!).

Really, I have always loved American Idol. It's never been hard to zone in on a favorite early in the game. As the last few years have gone by, I'm finding it more and more difficult to get past the themes chosen for the contestants to sing. I would imagine having to sing something outside your comfort zone would be hard enough, but when the theme is filled with out-of-date stuff, like disco - well, it's a disaster in the making. But, now, all that's just my opinion, and who am I and what do I know?

When I read this, I knew I had found a kindred spirit:
I will give them this, last night's "Idol" was noteworthy -- have you ever seen a show jam-packed with so much awfulness? ...And I'm not even going to elaborate on the asthma inducing disco-medly beyond saying that while Freda Payne, Thelma Houston and KC from The Sunshine Band are all musical icons, I spent that seven minutes praying there was oxygen waiting for them in the wings.

I loved disco in the 70s. It was incredibly fun to move to and I sang at the top of my lungs along with Freda and KC. (note - David's mom was the BEST at singing KC's Shake Your Bootie!) But, I have to agree with the above quote. It was all a bit pitiful. I mean, it's kind of like this.
