Ditch Church?
One church's attempt to reach out to those who have no use for church: Ditch Church Maybe it's just me, but I wonder if stuff like this actually works. I wonder if the unchurched don't look at outreach like this as some sort of hokey scheme.
I guess time will tell if this form of advertising is effective or not. Lets see what type of response they get for their Easter Service. I have checked out the site and it seems to be very controversial. I think it would be better if people would read the whole site before they form an opinion though. I like it.
I have read the whole site, and have found it to be over the top in its attacks on the church "institution". It seems like hanging the church's dirty laundry out and saying "we're different" from those other icky guys.
I think those of us who have been in the church for years should be critical of the church as an institution. The "church" Jesus established is supposed to be more concerned with Kingdom advancement and discipleship than hierarchy of leadership along with their sacred cows.
So tell me how an obvious defunct process (look at the statistics)can be challenged without all the religious elitists immediately critically and uncontextually attacking without looking introspectively?
Challenging a system should not be immediately construed as rebellion. Maybe the laundry actually is dirty; so what is wrong with exposing things to the light? Unless "those guys" want to continue to hide the ickyness?
