He misses her
I talked with Daddy last night and he sounded tired. He'd been in his shop doing a bit of woodworking and proceeded to tell me all about it. He talked of better times with Mama and how he misses her so.
He talked of his church and how good they were to him, and how my oldest brother and sister-in-law had been attending on Sunday mornings with him. He's thrilled with having them there and also said it gave a good excuse for him not to have to sit with "the old widow woman" who insists each week that he sits with her and her family. Daddy appreciates her kindness, but I think he feels a bit uncomfortable about the whole thing.
He told me again how hard it was for him to just get dressed for church each Sunday. Since his stroke he has trouble with small motor skills and buttoning that small top collar button is nearly impossible for him. He says, "Your mother used to do this for me, but she's no longer here."
