Henley update

It's a tiring thing to sleep for 5 or 6 hours each night and then get up and be ready to give intensive care to a big dog. I can't really complain, though, because at least I've been sleeping in the bed. David has been sleeping on the floor by Henley's side for the last 3 nights.

Ellen came by today and helped us get Hen outside where he finally - finally peed and put a bit of weight down on his leg. I know - probably tmi for most, but when you have a dog the size of a Great Dane these things are important. He'd been holding it in because he is so well trained he refuses to go in the house. She examined his hock and did a "tap" on it withdrawing fluids to check them. We're to keep him on antibiotics and pain killers for another few days.

He is trying to get up - which is good. But, since we don't want any accidents on the carpet - even though he never does that - we're keeping him on the tiled floors. They're slick and a Great Dane has to "grip" with his front feet while lifting his behind with his back legs. With a slippery floor, it becomes near impossible. We did move him to the kitchen so he's closer to the back door.

Everything looks good, but we're still praying for the time he'll stand up and walk on his own.
