Centered

I fear I'll lose a friend over this, but hope not. Here's the thing. I hate getting all the emails and posts that are belligerent in tone. It's funny how many of these I get that presuppose that I am on a particular side of the political strata. I am so far from what is expected of me - a Christian, married to a pastor - politically. I am so far from what is expected of me - a woman in my 50s from middle GA - politically.

Here's the thing - if you send me anything at all - if you talk with me in person using any way of delivering information that comes in the form of hate-speak - I'm not going to hear you. I will immediately go to the next post, delete your email, whatever - but, the message that you deemed so important will be lost. You've lost one more to your "side" because of your method of delivery.

I grow weary of "when Reagan was president" compared to "when Obama was president." None of this means crap to change the world because any heart that dwells on what was and can't go forward to what is... is well, closed. It's time to stop "thinking" (I put that in quotes because I don't believe most people who pass along stuff like this actually think before sending) and to start praying...and doing - feeding/clothing/spending time with - start "DOING" what Jesus has taught us to do. He didn't teach us to slam people - He taught us to care for the widows and orphans. He didn't teach us to spew hatred, but to spread love.

The latest I've seen pointed to Johnny Cash. So - I looked it up - had to see for myself his political stances. Funny thing is, nothing much was found on it outside of folks wanting to make him their own, to validate what they thought was right.

I did find this:
Another thing that I really admired about Johnny was that he was one the very few, that came down off the “I’m better than you” country music mountain in the 1960’s and sat down, broke bread and talked with the counter culture of the hippy generation. Instead of an snide attitude towards them, he had the nicest attitude towards them, he did something that not many people would; he sat and listened to them. He also made music with Bob Dylan, something that just did not happen in that era. The Conservative political world could learn much from Johnny Cash. I think that the world would be much better served if those in politics; bloggers, pundits, and the politicians themselves, would listen to one another, instead of hating, yelling and fighting amongst one another. via

I'm pretty sure that all the emails/posts I get would fall under this. I mean, if Johnny Cash thought so and taught through his actions then it must be gospel. Oh, but that's the wrong JC isn't it...

It's time to stop and think before we start flippantly posting and emailing stuff that is so diametrically against the teachings of Christ. If it's not centered in love, then it's not centered in Christ. Period
