A thousand years ago, when I was just a young girl, I found myself with a group of friends my age somewhere in Gray, GA with my beloved teacher, Katherine Williams. She taught my GA group at church (Bethesda Baptist). I'm still not sure where exactly we went and what the reason was.
On this particular trip, I remember what I wore. I remember her picking me up and I remember riding in "downtown" Gray. Gray GA was a tiny little town at the time but Mrs Williams was so patient with us as we were loud and boisterous, talking to people in the cars next to us at the stop lights. I honestly remember that! I think we must have gone to her mom's home or maybe it was her mother-in-law's home, but wherever it was, they put a record on to play for us. It was Tennessee Ernie Ford singing old spirituals. I heard this song for the very first time in my life and I've never forgotten it. Oh, Mary, don't you weep, don't you mourn... This is a very cool version of a very old song. Enjoy:
