Grace from Gracie
Tonight I received grace from an impertinent little girl named Gracie. She is a blonde freckle-faced child, so tiny that you'd be shocked that all the constant barrage of chatter (much of it smart-alecky) could come from her.
She's a faithful part of our Wednesday night Child 2 Child group and comes to Sunday School and worship most Sundays. She's the baby sister to two brothers and honestly acts more like a boy, complete with gaseous emissions.
Wednesdays are crazy wild. We're teaching them to sew which means lots of little details have to be taken care of. When you get 12 - 15 girls in one room it's incredibly hard to keep orderly. There's just too much excitement!
Tonight, Gracie was extra excited and talkative and jumpy and ...I lost it. I think I must have yelled directly at her at least once and then told her to hush a half dozen times to boot. Then, there was the point when she interrupted me while I was working with another child where I stopped and explained to her that I could only do so much and she'd have to wait her turn.
The night ended with us in our prayer circle. I talked with the girls about "me" and "mine" because I heard those two words way too often tonight. I asked them to say their memory verse with me: And the King will answer: Whenever you did it for any of My people, no matter how unimportant they seem, you did it for Me. Matthew 25:40 The Lord worked as I saw each face show realization of how He wanted them to care about others more than themselves.
After prayer they were all talk and movement, readying to leave for home. It was then Gracie, whom I had yelled at and called down, looked up at me and said, "Mrs Bunny, I love you. I really do love you!"
Yes, I received grace from Gracie tonight.
