From smooth jazz to Allman Brothers

I never watched the Weather Channel until we moved to Florida and had our first hurricane season. That's when I became very familiar with "Local on the 8s" segment when you'd see local weather updates with elevator music playing in the background. I never really thought that much about it because I was more interested in whether Ivan was headed in our direction than the smooth jazz they were playing.

That's all about to change:
"I think we've been doing an injustice to our viewers playing, for the lack of a better word, elevator music on the segments for all these years," Geoffrey Darby said.
"People would have it on but they wouldn't be watching and they wouldn't be listening," he said of the segments. "We wanted music that would get their attention -- and this has."
He said songs featured in the "Local on the 8s" segments now include tunes by The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band and Devo.
Darby said the switch has received an "80 percent approval rating" from viewers.
I can say with almost certainty that I still won't be watching until the next hurricane threatens the area, but...Allman Brothers - cool!
