Both of our sons are just incredible blessings. David nor I can hear Silent Night without going back to 6 yr old Adam singing it so softly in the back seat of the car on the way home from a trip to his grandparents. And, I'll never forget sitting in the car with Sean in the parking lot of a grocery store as he prayed to accept Jesus as his Savior.
But because of who we are, the quirk factor does have to enter in. Adam went on a youth retreat and the kids sang for the church "Jesus is the Rock and He rolls my sins away, bop shoo bop shoo bop woo!" He sang, complete with very campy hand motions to where the complete church was cracking up. Yes, Adam was a ham in his younger days.
Sean, on the other hand has always been one to love the odd verses of Scripture. To this day, we cannot read the Biblical account of Lazarus being raised from the dead without hearing Sean's little boy's voice saying, "But, Lord...he stinketh!!" Man, he loved that verse. And, if there's ever a verse that tickled him (remember, he's a guy), it would be the one where the guy's guts spilled out on the ground. Somehow that one escapes my memory...
Today I ran across a sweet little white stuffed animal. Everyone say, "Ahhh!" at how baby-sweet it is...until you check into the small print on the bear's shirt. This would have made a perfect Christmas gift for Sean because another of his favorite verses came from 2 Kings 2:23-24: From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths. You can see why a young boy would love that. I mean it has kids, the word "baldhead" plus bears! What else could a little boy want?? Here's the "sweet" stuff animal:
