St Dymphna

I have just discovered that I have a patron saint! Ever since menopause set in I've had trouble sleeping. Maybe it's David's snoring and I'm blaming it on menopause, but whatever...

One of my favorite blogs is Ask Sister Mary Martha. No, I'm not Catholic, but I have this ongoing fascination with people who actually give up their whole lives to the Lord. I have trouble giving up diet Coke for a week so I'm fairly sure my devotion isn't where it should or could be.

Anyway, Sister Mary Martha answered the following question: "Sister, is there a patron saint of people who have trouble falling asleep at night?" She began her answer with, "There is a patron saint for sleep disorders. That would be St. Dymphna, the patron saint of crazy people, and by extrapolation all sorts of problems and disorders, including sleepwalking and therefore, sleep problems."

I'm not even going to go further here. There are way too many people who are more than willing to go there for me. And, I have several friends and a certain daughter-in-law who would join me here. Let's just say we're special.
